8 weeks down and 10 to go! I think this was arguably the best week yet to show us who is who and how good teams are or aren’t. I may be a fan first but I always call it like it is and this week’s rankings won’t be any different. And since it is Election Day which will be filled with winners and losers so is this week’s rankings. I promise these rankings won’t upset anyone based upon political affiliation but may upset people based upon fandom affiliation. Here we go.
Didn’t make the ballot: Chargers
The Chargers are 0-7 and somehow look worse and worse each week. They are terrible and aren’t even worth talking about just like that bill that didn’t make the ballot wasn’t worth voting for.
The Law that doesn’t effect anyone: Dolphins, Colts, Titans, Jets, Cardinals, and Texans
There is always that one law or amendment or bill on the ballot that you look at and you think aren’t we already doing that? Or you think that wouldn’t impact my life at all so I’ll vote yes. Basically it is the most irrelevant thing on the ballot just like all these teams are irrelevant.
Independent party candidate: NFC South and NFC East
I wish we didn’t have only 2 parties, but we do. So all the other options get on the ballot and good for them but they have no chance of winning anything of significance. Both of these divisions will have one winning team that will immediately lose in the first round of the playoffs. It’s sad but it is what it is.
Bill that should pass but was handled and communicated about so poorly that everyone is somehow against it: Ravens and Rams
Both of these teams were supposed to be awesome. But just about everything that could go wrong went wrong. Injuries, bad losses, and just bad mojo in general. The Ravens are toast for sure with Lamar out. They should trade for Drew Lock or something if they want to keep their season alive. The Rams have more hope but something just seems off over there. We will see what happens to them.
Bill that is pretty good but raises taxes so won’t pass: Raiders and Browns
These two teams are solid and will be competitive throughout the year but neither will make the playoffs. These are 8 or 9 win teams that will probably ruin someone else’s season but will come up short in their own seasons.
Primary Winners: Chiefs, Bengals, Steelers, Patriots, Seahawks, Vikings, Packers, and Lions
These are all playoff caliber teams. I’m confident that all 4 AFC teams will make the playoffs. I think 2 of the 3 if not all 3 NFC north teams make the playoffs assuming the Rams don’t get rolling. But all these teams are flawed in someway that will keep them winning in the playoffs just like a primary winner who doesn’t have a shot at winning the general election. The Bengals can’t run the ball, the Steelers are old, the Patriots turn the ball over too much and have too many injuries, the Seahawks only have 1 good offensive player, the Vikings can’t play offense, the Lions can’t play defense, the Packers can’t run the ball at all and the Chiefs can’t get a sack. If any of these teams can overcome these issues or even better, fix them, they might make a run but that is a big if.
General Election Winners: Bills, Broncos and Jaguars
These are the 3 best teams in the AFC right now. The Bills can’t play defense but it doesn’t matter. The Broncos only play good in the fourth quarter but it works for them. The Jags have the best all around team. If the regular season ended today, my money would be on one of these teams making the Super Bowl. I’d go with the Broncos because they just find ways to win. The Bills find ways to lose in the playoffs and the Jags are well…the Jags.
President-Elect: 49ers and Bears
Of all the elections to win, I guess President would be the best or most important one to win. These are the two best teams right now. The 49ers will probably run out of guys but they’ve had the best season so far. The Bears trade for Jeffrey Simmons was massive. I don’t really like the Bears or Ben Johnson. But I commend them for going all in while Caleb is on his rookie deal. If you want to build a dynasty which who doesn’t, you got to win at least one with your QB on a rookie deal. Life gets much harder once you have to start paying guys. And they will soon but not yet with Caleb, Burden, Odunze and Loveland all on rookie deals. This team is legit and has only lost one game that Caleb has started in. They are loud and annoying but they are really good.
And there you have it. This week’s completely fair and accurate rankings. Happy election day! Get out there and vote…or don’t. You can do whatever you want. But know that tomorrow we will all wake up winners because there will be no more political ads and even better no more political text messages. Happy Tuesday everyone.
