Week 1 Rankings

It’s finally here! Meaningful NFL Football. Here are the always accurate Fifth-Down rankings going into week 1.

Playing to draft Arch Manning: Jets, Dolphins, Cardinals and Browns

All these teams have a path to the #1 pick in the 2027 draft.

They suck, but they will probably beat your favorite team and ruin your weekend at some point this season: Titans and Raiders

Both these teams are just good enough to pull a random upset one Sunday afternoon.

Blue Tent quarterbacks: Giants and Commanders

It’s a race to see which of these two guys can play more games. Will either of them make it to week 5? Time will tell.

It’s a race to 9 wins: The NFC South

Last year no one made it.

“You remember the first half of last year when we won a bunch of games and were in position to be the one seed? That was awesome.”: Colts

They looked good last year. Then they started playing good teams and then Daniel Jones got hurt. Can they find a path to success this year?

Five foot five quarterback is a step up…that will need a step up: Vikings

The Vikings won 9 games last year with the worst quarterback play I have maybe ever seen. What can they do with average quarterback play?

Last Dance before the nursing home: Steelers

Does Rodgers have one final great season in him before he heads into the darkness or whatever he does every offseason?

Team IR: 49ers

All these injuries are minor. Sure the players are old and already hurt but it’ll be fine. It’s fine. Totally fine. Nothing to see here.

Can we please just have like the 20th best defense in the league?: Bengals and Cowboys

Great offenses. Been really, really bad to just okay? If they do, they will win a lot of games.

We are back! We are so back! We are back, right?: Chiefs and Ravens

Will these two perennial competitive AFC teams bounce back after an off year? Or was last year the new normal?

Offseason media darlings: Chargers and Bills

The talking heads absolutely love these guys. And all the talk is that Justin Herbert and Josh Allen finally got some help! Until the end of the year when they will say, can we please get these guys some help!

NFC North minus 1: Lions, Bears, Packers

These teams all have something to prove this year. The Lions need a bounce back. The Bears need to show that they can do it again and the Packers need to get over the hump.

It’s an even year….: Eagles and Jaguars

Both of these teams can be up and down year to year. What will 2026 provide for them? Does AJ Brown leaving right the ship? Does Liam Cohen provide stability for the Jags? Time will tell.

Offense? Who needs offense?: Texans

CJ Stroud, can you just be average?

Super Bowl or bust: Broncos and Patriots

Anything less than a Super Bowl victory is a disappointment.

Super Team: Rams

They got all the dudes from all the places, the Dodgers of the NFL.

Still the champs: Seahawks

While I don’t have Seattle winning it this year, in order to be the champ, you got to beat the champ. So Seattle gets to roll into the new year as the number 1 team.

Tune each week as I update the rankings!
